Synopsis: An observation of the benefits system, “Next in Line” centres a refugee doctor who’s seeking government financial assistance. At her job centre meeting she faces a harrowing decision –– either she works as a cleaner or gets sanctioned.
About the Filmmaker: Seyma is a Glasgow and London based Filmmaker whose short films have been selected at Glasgow Short, Bolton, Sunderland, NFFTY and more. During her studies at Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, she made her first short, MOVING, which got nominated for the Young Filmmakers Prize at Glasgow Short Film Festival. Her most recent short film, NEXT IN LINE, got commissioned by Screen Scotland through the GMAC Little Pictures scheme, and won Best Film at Raindance Open Shorts. In addition to her directorial work, Seyma collaborates with other filmmakers as an Editor and continues creating work that touches on womanhood and immigrant experience.
