About the Filmmaker: Pip Swallow studied English at Kings College London before going to the Academy of Live and Recorded Arts. Her first jobs as an actor were in theatre and satirical sketch comedy. Pip has worked with the directors Jude Christian and Lucy Skilbeck, and has performed at the Criterion, Leicester Square Theatre, Canal Cafe, and the Komedia in Brighton and Bath.
After living and working in Los Angeles and Berlin, Pip began performing long and short-form improvisation. Moving back to the UK to do a Theatre and Performance MA joined the dots in terms of creating her own material, and it was during that programme she began to write her first sitcom pilot. The pilot, which she also exec-produced, won the Edinburgh TV Festival New Voices award for Best Pilot and played at festivals such as Tribeca, Underwire (Nominated for Best Production Designer), Cambridge, Norwich, Pilot Light (Honourable Mention) and Exit 6 (Judge’s 6). Pip was selected for the BFI Talent Hub Short Film Development programme 2019/20 and ‘Dream Big’ was born out of this scheme. Pip has also been working on a project, which crystalised while applying to the scheme, a comedy horror film called ‘Day of the 20,000 Gammon’, featuring a predominantly female and diverse team, her debut short film as a director. ‘Day of the 20,000 Gammon’ has subsequently screened at Exit 6, RIFF, ScreamFest and Underwire Film Festival (Nominated for Best Composer).
