On the 4th May 2016 Directors UK published its commissioned study Cut Out of the Picture – A study into Gender Inequality Amongst Directors within the UK Film Industry, by Stephen Follows. It studied 2,591 UK films released over a ten-year period (2005-2014) and found that just 13.6% of working film directors in the last decade were women. Despite women making up 50.1% of all film students in the UK and 49.4% of new entrants in the film industry, only 27.2% of short films and 21.7% of publicly funded films studied were directed by women.
Therefore, back for its second year we decided to dedicate a screening specifically for some of our awesome Female Directors who submitted their shorts to the festival to help promote and support gender equality amongst female directors. We will of course have more shorts directed by females in our other screenings, but we thought we would celebrate this handful of kick ass directors in tonight’s screening.
We are hoping to welcome Lesley Manning and Stephanie Zari for a short Q&A following this screening.
Tickets: General Admission £5 // Under 25’s £4 (Plus Booking Fee)
Tonight’s Shorts Include:
