There has been an incredible amount of research, statistics which highlight the under representation of BAME, Women, LGBT, Disability etc.. within the Film Industry and we wanted to talk about what needs to happen to continue changing those statistics moving forward to ensure all groups are represented fairly in the UK Film Industry.
We are thrilled to be joined by the following panellist:
Melanie Hoyes: is a researcher with a film, television and cultural studies academic background. She is working on a research project to acquire ethnicity data about onscreen talent for the BFI Filmography, a ground breaking database charting the entire history of British Feature Film. It is hoped that the continuing work on this data will be used to inform improved policy and practice at the BFI and the UK film industry in general, in order to drive change and improve onscreen representation in film.
Priscilla John: Is a legendary Casting Director who has worked on some of the biggest Blockbuster’s around. She started her career at Granada TV casting iconic dramas such as Jewel In the Crown which led to casting David Lean’s A Passage To India. Her work includes blockbusters such as Captain America: The First Avenger, Logan, The Maze Runner, About a Boy, Mamma Mia! to cult classics including A Fish Called Wanda and Distant Voices, Still Lives.
Antonio Aakeel: Is one of the UK’s most up and coming British Actors. He has recently starred in the Tomb Raider reboot opposite the Oscar Winning Alicia Vikander. His screen debut came in the BAFTA award-winning drama series Skins (2007) with additional TV credits including Three Girls. Antonio can also be seen in the upcoming comedy feature Eaten By Lions which is currently making waves on the Festival circuit.
