About the director
Born in Singapore in February 1994, Gershon and his family relocated to Hong Kong when he was 12. Currently residing there, he is finishing his final year at South Island School, an international school in Hong Kong. His passion for film has driven him to establish his style and reputation within the film department. He has won multiple awards in media studies and Film studies with hopes of pursuing this underrated art form at university. His collaborative work on a “Roots and Shoots” Promotional video has been recognized on the official homepage itself and viewed by thousands online; and in the production process, met Dr. Jane Goodall herself.
His latest short “The Ascension” was named “Best Film” At the 2011 SIS Film Awards and he later went on to win “Best Director” at the Hong Kong Schools Film Awards in its inaugural year. His films have been screened in multiple international film festivals across the globe and have received numerous awards.
“The Ascension is possibly the most ambitious film that I have directed to date. With this film, we tried to push the boundaries of student filmmaking both technically and artistically. To produce a film with an unconventional absence of dialogue, we expressed ourselves primarily through the cinematography and sound; and in doing so hoped to unfold a moral tale.”
