Why are NFF offering this?
At the Norwich Film Festival we are really keen to help new filmmakers improve and expand on their work. We spend our year watching hundreds of short films which get submitted to us – some are fantastic and blow us away, while some just slip so short of their own potential that we feel like we should step in and offer our advice. We like to think we know what makes a great film, and we would like to help people make that step up from good to great.
Everyone knows how cut-throat the film industry can be, and if you don’t make a good first impression, you can be passed over and forgotten quickly, and this thought puts many people off attempting to break in. With a little help, you can make sure you’re in the perfect possible position before presenting your work. Over the next 3-5 years, NFF will look to continually expand our educational output, striving for ways to help filmmakers improve. This is just one step on a long journey.
How long before I hear back?
Once you have made your payment through Paypal and received your confirmation email, send this to us with your script. We will look to confirm receipt of your script within 24 hours. Once we have done so, we aim to provide a full report within 14 days, usually sooner.
What if I don’t agree with my report?
The coverage given by our readers is the honest opinion of experienced professionals presented in the most constructive way possible. We are here to offer advice which we believe will help improve your work and further your career. If you disagree with anything we might include in our report, please disregard it. At the end of the day, the script is entirely your own work, and you may do with it what you wish. We are simply here to help where we think we can. No refunds will be given if you are unhappy with our reports.
Does the NFF take any further action on my behalf?
At this stage, we are unable to take any further action other than that on offer. We hope that in the future we will be in a position to forward your work to production companies for you, however, as of right now we are focusing entirely on your script. If you are happy with our report and want to include it with your script when sending off to production companies, please feel free.
Do I still hold copyright on all my work?
Yes. The work is entirely your own, and we are not in any way attempting to take advantage of this in anyway. Any suggestions or advice we may offer, are simply the views of our experienced readers, and whether or not you choice to take up and follow this advice is entirely up to you. We are not looking to take credit for your work.
Do you accept hard copies?
Unfortunately not. Our office space is limited, so we have little room to store any additional work. Please send all your scripts via email as any hard copies will be recycled.
If you have any further questions, please contact us.
