2012 One Minute Movie
About the director
First of all I have to declare myself as a visual artist. Animation film and film as artistic act of creation have been a part of my life since the very beginning. The film “Actor” was recently created and has as pattern my conception about life and human behavior. On the other hand animation itself and multiple advantages of this technique let me design and fulfill my task to create the story according to filmmaking rules. It’s a real challenge to any filmmaker to preserve the conception and to develop the idea in such short time, one minute, but in the same time there are stories that can fit exactly to this length. When I started to work I had in mind the scenes and their succession, but there were some missing components that finally appeared …just in time. I hope that I will be able to convey my ideas and feelings to any kind of audience and let them think more about this subjects.
I have started to make animation film together with my brother in 1989 in very difficult economical and political conditions. We designed, after a very hard work, a film with political connotations as a parabola of power and control over people and we called it “Gratitude”. The film won the first prize in a student film festival at Cergy Pontoise near Paris in 1993. Then we’ve been forced to abandon, for years, animation film creation due to financial difficulties. In 2002 we tried to reconsider that and we have created an animated commercial for a chemical factory . Last year I decided to reopen “Pandora’s box “ of animation and I created “Actor”. In the same time we started to remake the film “Gratitude”, according to the new techniques and digital facilities. Meanwhile we also try to discover and develop graphic abilities of some pupils toward animation film creation.
Andrei has recently launched a website – http://www.creativetourism.eu – and invites artists to workshops he runs in Romania.
